Fishing Methods
Kite Fishing
Kite fishing aboard the Finger Mullet offers an exciting and productive approach to sport fishing, ideal for our trips during the cooler months. By deploying multiple kites, we dangle live baits directly on the water’s surface, distanced from the boat to entice wary predators. This method excels in drawing in species like sailfish and tuna, with the setup allowing for the potential of catching several fish simultaneously. As one fish takes the bait, other lines remain active, increasing your chances for a dynamic and fruitful fishing experience. Kite fishing combines the thrill of the catch with efficient use of time on the water, making every outing both adventurous and rewarding for our anglers.
Bottom Fishing
Explore the rich depths of Miami’s waters with bottom fishing on the Finger Mullet, adaptable depending on the weather conditions and the captain’s choice. This technique uses a variety of baits—live, cut, or whole—targeted at the ocean floor, where depths range from forty to over a thousand feet. In shallower areas, light tackle is ideal for catching snappers, while deeper ventures between two hundred to six hundred feet might surprise you with an eclectic mix of delectable fish. Bottom fishing is consistently productive throughout the year, making it an excellent choice for anglers looking to capitalize on the best sea conditions.
Trolling
Trolling stands as a classic fishing technique along the South Florida coast, favored aboard the Finger Mullet for its versatility and thrilling action. This method adjusts to target different species by positioning baits just on or beneath the surface, depending on the fishing conditions. Notably, high-speed trolling is our specialized approach for chasing the swift Wahoo, offering an adrenaline-pumping experience as these fast predators strike. We employ both artificial lures and different varieties of bait for trolling, capturing some of our most impressive catches while transitioning between spots. Trolling is a year-round adventure, ensuring that no matter when you join us, there’s always the potential for a rewarding catch.
Sight Fishing
Sight fishing is among the most exhilarating methods we offer on the Finger Mullet, yielding impressive results regularly. From the heightened vantage point of our Marlin tower, the captain and crew keep a vigilant watch for various fish visible on the surface. Once a target is identified, the captain informs the anglers about the fish’s type and size, guiding them to present the perfect bait with the optimal tackle. This method heightens the thrill of fishing, as anglers often witness the bite—arguably the most thrilling part of the catch. We specialize in pursuing species like cobia, mahi-mahi, sailfish, and Tunas through sight fishing, often making it the most effective approach.
Swordfishing
Swordfish, the largest game fish off Miami’s coast, can be targeted day or night, presenting an unmatched challenge for anglers aboard the Finger Mullet. By day, we deploy baits along the ocean floor at depths reaching two thousand feet, where these formidable predators often exceed three hundred pounds. At night, the technique shifts as we drift along the Gulf Stream, setting up to seven lines baited with either live or dead bait. Each line is equipped with a luminescent light to allure swordfish, enhancing our chances of a successful catch. This method has led to spectacular hauls, including nights with multiple swordfish. Whether under the sun or stars, swordfishing offers an exhilarating experience and the thrill of battling these mighty and giant creatures.
Spearfishing
Spearfishing is an engaging and dynamic way to interact with the marine environment off the coast of Miami or the Bahamas, offered aboard the Finger Mullet. This traditional fishing technique allows you to be in the water with one of the world’s best free divers, enhancing the precision and selectivity of targeting a wide variety of species. Whether aiming for snapper, grouper, or elusive pelagic fish, spearfishing with an expert diver turns each expedition into a once-in-a-lifetime hunt.
